A mortal equivalent to Superman, Captain Marvel is imparted the following abilities: wisdom of Solomon, strength of Hercules, stamina of Atlas, power of Zeus, courage of Achilles and speed of Mercury; Billy Batson speaks the word ‘SHAZAM’ to transform into Captain Marvel. The magical nature of the transformation often enables Captain Marvel to gain the upper hand against Superman. The New 52 version of Marvel portrays Billy Batson as an opportunistic foster child who attempts to exploit his power before running afoul of Black Adam. Narrowly succeeding in defeating Adam, Marvel is detained while attempting to return Adam’s remains to Khandaq. Marvel later opens Pandora’s box, and is transformed into a new version with physical characteristics similar to those of Black Adam.
